(May 12, 2020) - The Department of Labor on May 12 announced (2020 WL 2317580) the availability of $100 million in grants to help states and employers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grants are for states with federally compliant short-term compensation programs, which help employers avert layoffs and preserve jobs during disruptions to regular business.
By reducing employee hours and using partial unemployment benefits to make up the difference, these programs also allow employers to bring back a laid-off workforce as states allow businesses to reopen.
The grants are funded under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
