At the core of the financial news offering is Reuters, the world’s largest international multimedia news provider and known for independence and trust.

Get easy access to trusted news, data, and analytics, all filtered by relevance to your exact needs with Thomson Reuters Eikon

Reuters goes beyond breaking news, offering unbiased insight and depth to drive better financial decisions. This powerful news-gathering operation includes more than 2,600 full-time journalists in 200 bureaus. Our columnists provide in-depth commentary and analysis on market news, often challenging conventional wisdom.

We’ve heard from our clients that they need to access all critical news sources in a unified experience. Within Eikon, Reuters news is combined with thousands of third-party sources, providing even greater coverage across markets, regions and business sectors.

However, with today’s accelerating flow of news, the challenge financial professionals face is being able to filter out the noise and quickly hone in on the most critical headlines relevant to individual needs.

Our work in 2017 has focused on meeting these two competing client needs, ensuring completeness of coverage and combating information overload.

We leverage text analytics and artificial intelligence to help clients find the most actionable financial news and information, regularly optimizing the experience through continuous customer engagement and feedback analysis.

As the year comes to a close, we’ve selected just a handful of the many enhancements made in 2017 to demonstrate how we’re leading the way with financial news analytics.

Significant News

The Significant News filter allows clients to search for important company news in News Monitor.

Based on machine learning, the algorithm works by identifying only the most important news and removing articles deemed irrelevant.

Examples of significant stories include financial news about mergers and acquisitions, earnings, IPOs and other corporate developments.

How to use: Open News Monitor and type ‘SIG’ in combination with any company search.

Reuters News Tracer

With millions of people around the world using social media to share information and events in real time, how do you find the signals in the noise?

Reuters News Tracer was developed to do just that. Our proprietary algorithm monitors millions of Tweets in real time to detect likely news, before scoring them for veracity and newsworthiness.

Initially developed to focus on the detection of disaster events of critical importance to global supply chain managers such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, pipeline & refinery outages, Reuters News Tracer has, in many cases, revealed stories far ahead of other news agencies.

How to use: Open News Monitor and type ‘RTRACE’ in combination with supply chain and disaster topic codes.

CNBC Live Alerts

In July 2016, a partnership with CNBC produced the launch of CNBC live video streaming in Eikon and Thomson ONE.  This provided users with expanded company and markets news coverage.

Live Alerts works by ‘listening’ to the live feed and sending news alerts when specific companies are discussed.

Video replay functionality provides users with 24 hours to access the video on demand, immediately jumping to the relevant content.

How to use: Open News Monitor and type ‘LCNBC’ in combination with any company search.

Reuters Top News and Most Read

A simple yet effective way to quickly find the biggest and most critical news stories is by utilizing the Reuters Top News and Most Read filters.

Reuters Top News returns stories that have been designated ‘top news’ status by editors, while the Most Read filter ranks stories by readership over the last 24 hours.

Use with custom search queries to find the most critical news in your field.

How to use Top News: Open News Monitor and type ‘TOPNWS’ in combination with any search.

How to use Most Read: Open News Monitor and select ‘Most Read’ from the menu to the left of the search box.

A dynamic customer experience

Every enhancement starts with our customers.

In recognition of how we have helped make it easier to find the most actionable financial news, Thomson Reuters was recognized by Connectiv, the Business Information Association, with an Innovation Award in the category Delivering a Dynamic Customer Experience at the 2017 Connectiv Innovation Awards.
