In-house agenda: what to expect in 2017

Sara Catley

15 Feb 2017

2017 promises to be an action-packed year for in-house lawyers, with significant developments on the agenda in a range of practice areas. What do commercial lawyers need to know regarding the new statutory code on direct marketing? When will personal liability for directors for nuisance call claims be introduced? The UK government’s green paper on corporate governance is set to have an impact; lawyers must also stay up to date with reporting requirements on payment policies and practices.

Company secretaries face changes to the UK’s persons of significant control regime, as well as implementation of the latest money laundering directive. Tax practitioners will need to get to grips with the new corporate criminal failure to prevent tax evasion offence, and the change in the main rate of corporation tax. Data protection regimes will be challenged by the impending implementation of the GDPR; more generally, cyber security and information security are sure to stay in the headlines, with the Joint Committee on National Information Security set to report after its inquiry closes in February. And this is without even mentioning Brexit, which will play out through 2018 and beyond.

Watch our video and make sure you’re aware of the key dates and developments that will drive the in-house agenda for 2017.
