Lucy Demery is an Executive Director in the Financial & Strategic Investors Group at Standard Chartered in London, where she advises on cross-border investments and acquisitions between Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. She takes particular interest in the technology sector and impact investing.
Prior to Standard Chartered, Lucy was a public policy advisor to the Government of Vietnam, advising on market liberalisation reforms to promote international investment in economic development. Lucy started her career as a lawyer at Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP in New York, where she advised technology and healthcare clients on corporate governance and mergers & acquisitions. She subsequently worked as an investment banker at J.P. Morgan, with sector focus on power, utilities and clean technology.
Lucy volunteers as a mentor and judge for Pitch@Palace, founded by His Royal Highness The Duke of York to promote social entrepreneurship. She serves on the UK Board of Trustees for Ace Africa, a charity which advances education, health and livelihoods in rural Kenya and Tanzania. She is also a member of the Prime Minister’s UK-Africa Fintech Investment Group.
Lucy grew up in Hong Kong and holds a bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours from the London School of Economics and a Juris Doctorate from Columbia University, where she was a Kent Scholar.
